We started, restarted, rewrote and tweaked this song, “Be the Village”, so many times throughout our months of writing songs for this album! We imagined a song that would call out to the church and place the “modern orphan” and foster care crisis into their hearts. We began by reviewing everything we could find in scripture about caring for orphans and having compassion for others. There is so much in the Bible on these topics and the importance in God’s people leading the way into caring for them. The fact is that children in foster care, their parents, and their foster parents need a village of loving people to come around them and encourage them. Unfortunately, we have noticed the hardest part of this for many is finding ways to love and encourage the biological family. Because of this we’ve made sure to place that reminder at the forefront: no matter who you are or what you’ve done you deserve a Village. In the bridge we name many different kinds of people then our family and our friends the Beazley family sing out together “everyone needs a Village”! We hope this song will serve as that exact reminder to anyone listening.
