Tiny Affirmations has a little bit of a funny story. We wanted to include a song that kids could sing by themselves or with their caregiver to help remind them of their great worth. As we were writing together this particular song idea just kept getting set aside until one day Becca just started singing affirmations aloud to our son, Lincoln. Things like “I am smart” and “I am brave” to simple melodies that he could sing back to us. By the end of the day the affirmations were a song and, evidenced by the fact that our kids picked them up so quickly, were going to be easy for kids to sing. Still though, the song was swept aside and we forgot about it until about a week before we needed to record vocals on the album. Becca pulled the song from our list, added a verse, and Kris wrote the piano part on the spot. We are so glad we were able to include this song on the album because we feel like words of strength are so important for ALL children but especially those in foster care. Our hope for this song is that families will sing it together so that, in moments of need, kids can speak them to themselves to remember how strong they are.
